The New Year…
Christmas is a time to relax, spend time with family and eat copious amounts of gourmet meals and snacks. Combining this with a busy month of gatherings, set ups and preparations; it becomes very hard to find the time to exercise. The issue with this is it then creates a cycle of increasing calorie intake and decreasing calorie expenditure. Consequently, it becomes no surprise that it becomes easy to put weight on this time of year.
We’ve reached the new year, most of us have returned to our busy working lives and it’s likely many of our resolutions have been broken. It’s time to form a solid routine which includes consistent, manageable exercise to keep us healthy, fit and strong. We’ve got the perfect exercise alternative for you to slot into your busy schedule. TABATA!
Tabata is a popular form of high intensity interval training (HIIT) involving maximal (we stress this…. maximal) efforts of exercise for 20 seconds with a 10 second break. This is done for as little as 8 sets, therefore resulting in a total of 4 minutes of exercise! The benefit of Tabata training is it stimulates both our aerobic and anaerobic system; essentially meaning its targeting both our cardiovascular and muscle fitness at the same time.
Now this is no miracle workout, different exercise programs are designed for different goals. However the benefit here is we can do something effective over a short time to help provide some advantage compared to being completely sedentary.
It is important to note however that given this is a high intensity workout, if you have any health conditions it would be wise to get checked out before trying it. Regardless, like all exercise programs make sure to start off light and easy before progressing accordingly.
