Let the games begin! From 4th-15th April 2018, the Gold Coast will host the 21st Commonwealth Games (GC2018). Welcoming more than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 71 Commonwealth nations and territories, the Gold Coast will be in the spotlight as elite athletes strive to make their mark on Aussie soil.
The largest sporting event to be staged in Australia this decade, GC2018 will feature the largest integrated sports program in Commonwealth Games history, comprising 18 sports and seven para-sports. Beach Volleyball, Para Triathlon and Women’s Rugby Sevens will make their Commonwealth Games debuts and for the first time at a Commonwealth Games, an equal number of men’s and women’s medal events will be contested.
Local leading allied health provider in Tuggerah, Coast Sport will be supporting the Australian team with the Director and head physiotherapist Brett Doring onsite in the village and Matt Cranney at Oxenford, where the boxing, badminton and squash athletes will be competing. The Coast Sport Directors have been selected as Sports Physiotherapists to assist the Australian team throughout the duration of the games.
Brett Doring will be specifically supporting the Australian Swim team. ‘It is a great honour to be there on pool deck with the swimmers and to be able to contribute to their performance” says Doring. The popular physio to our Central Coast sporting stars is regularly on tour with the Australian Dolphins Swim team and Paralympic team helping to keep the athletes well- tuned and in top condition.

The Central Coast will be well represented at the 2018 Commonwealth Games with Central Coast Academy of Sport graduates Matthew Dawson, Jesse Parahi, Brad Woodward and Nick Yallouris representing Australia in their respective sports alongside Ellia Green and Nicola McDermott who also grew up on the Central Coast. All six athletes will be on the medal hunt during the 21st edition of the games. We wish them all the best of luck in their pursuit of gold on the Goldie!
