Why did you get into your sport?
In year 2 I participated in the school athletics carnival and won all my races, coming home with ribbons, my parents then enrolled me in Little Athletics. And I have loved it ever since!
Where did you grow up?
I have spent most of my life here on the coast.
Greatest achievement to date?
Coming 5th and doing a PB at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in Canberra.
What has been your biggest challenge and how have you overcome this?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced throughout my sporting career would be my injury in May 2017 when I had a significant ankle sprain which left me out of my sport for 4 months. I have overcome this by doing months of physio, strengthening my ankle. This injury was tough mentally and knowing where I was previously before the injury and my competitive nature made me determined to get back to where I was if not better.
What do you like doing other than jumping?
I like to socialise with my family and friends.
What keeps you motivated to get up and train?
It reminds me of my goals
I love feeling fit
Comradery within my squad
And the old saying ‘train hard, race easy’
Who are your heroes and why?
When I was younger I looked up to Cathy Freeman, now I also look up to Brooke Stratton who is the current Australian record holder for Long Jump as she has been challenged throughout her career with injuries and managed to overcome those obstacles.
What advice would you give to other up and coming athletes?
Never give up through the tough times
Enjoy what you do
Believe in yourself
And most importantly have fun!
The team at Coast Sport play an integral role in Beth’s training and she utilises all their services, equipment and facilities regularly as part of her regime.
